Ever since selfies became a thing over the past 5 years or so, they have succeeded in taking over our lives, for better and worse. Here in California, Driving Selfies are a thing, and we rank as the top U.S. state for the most Instagram-posted #DrivingSelfies.
That is not something to be proud of.
A study found that Californians posted 2.53 selfies while driving per 100,000 residents, which is double compared to New Yorkers.
The Auto Insurance Center believes a large part of this is from tourists, but tourists can, and will, get in trouble if they are caught driving and using their phone. As you know, and hopefully many out-of-staters know, it is illegal to be on a cell phone while driving in California. You must be using a hands-free device like Bluetooth.
